The Detroit Pistons are undergoing a massive rebuild as the team looks to get back to where they belonged in the 1990s.
Teams are finalizing their rosters as they prepare for NBA training camps set to start next month. There are still some notable free agents available at this point in the offseason. According to Omari Sankofa of The Detroit Free Press, the Pistons have signed Lamar Stevens to a training camp contract as part of their efforts to strengthen their roster.
Lamar Stevens will need to put in significant effort to secure a spot on the Pistons’ roster during training camp, as his contract is only for the season. The Pistons currently have 13 standard contracts that are guaranteed. Paul Reed is essentially assured a spot on the opening night roster, despite having a non-guaranteed deal.

Since this is his fifth NBA season, Stevens is not eligible for a two-way contract, even though the Pistons have a slot available for one. He possesses a solid skill set and plays with great energy and hustle. Unless he performs poorly during training camp and the preseason, Stevens likely has an advantage if the Pistons choose to carry 15 standard contracts into the regular season.
Lamar Stevens is definitely an NBA-caliber rotation player, having been removed from the roster this offseason. Last season, he rotated between the Boston Celtics and the Memphis Grizzlies.
Before the 2023–24 season, Stevens signed with the Celtics and was added to their final roster after training camp. When he got playing time, he performed decently for Boston, but he was traded to the Grizzlies at the trade deadline in exchange for Xavier Tillman.
In his time with both the Grizzlies and Celtics, Stevens played in 38 games, averaging just over 14 minutes per game. He recorded a field goal percentage of 45%, a three-point percentage of 30%, and a free-throw percentage of 77.8%, contributing an average of 7.2 points and 3.3 rebounds.
