Breaking: Devils sign restricted free agent Sensation to a Whooping 3-year, $12 million contract

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) – The New Jersey Devils have signed promising young forward Dawson Mercer to a three-year contract worth $ 12 million as of Friday.

According to Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald, the 22-year-old will receive $3millionintheupcomingseason,$ 4.75 million the next year, and $ 4.25 million in the final year of the deal, which extends to 2026-27.

Last season, Mercer played all 82 games, recording 20 goals and 13 assists, including a career-high of four power-play goals, while averaging 17:13 in ice time.

On February 25, 2023, Mercer set a franchise record for the Devils by surpassing Scott Gomez for the most consecutive games played (141) to begin an NHL career. He has since extended that streak to 246 games and hasn’t missed a game since making his debut on October 15, 2021.

Over his first three seasons, Mercer has tallied 64 goals and 67 assists, along with three goals and four assists in 12 playoff appearances.

Chosen as New Jersey’s second pick, 18th overall, in the 2020 NHL draft, Mercer has also represented Canada at the 2020 and 2021 World Junior Championships and the 2022 and 2024 World Championships.
