Breaking: Edmonton Oilers On the Verge of “SIGNIFICANT DECISION” In Regards To Superstar’s Career

Before becoming an NHL superstar, Edmonton Oilers captain played his junior hockey in the OHL.

Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid is already regarded as one of the greatest players in hockey history, and his statistics support that claim. Before emerging as the top talent in the NHL, he excelled in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Erie Otters.

During his three-year stint with the Otters as a junior player, McDavid was instrumental to their achievements. To recognize his contributions in the OHL, the Otters have decided to retire his No. 97 jersey.

During his time with the Otters, McDavid played 166 games across three seasons, recording a notable 97 goals and 188 assists for a total of 285 points, which ranks fourth in the franchise’s history.

His standout season was in 2014-15, when he netted 44 goals and provided 76 assists in just 47 games, leading the Otters to an appearance in the OHL championship, where they ultimately fell to the Oshawa Generals in five games.

In the playoffs that year, McDavid excelled further, adding 21 goals and 28 assists for 49 points over 20 games.

The Otters announced they will retire McDavid’s No. 97 on January 10, 2025, exactly 97 days from now. His number will join Brad Boyes’ No. 16 and Vince Scott’s No. 18 as the only retired jerseys in franchise history.

Around the time of the ceremony, McDavid and the Oilers will be on an Eastern Conference road trip, facing the Pittsburgh Penguins on January 9, just a short drive from Erie, PA.

Since being selected first overall by the Oilers in 2015, McDavid has played 645 NHL games and is nearing the 1,000 career points milestone. With 335 goals and 647 assists, he currently sits at 982 points, making him just shy of the 1,000 mark.
