Breaking: Former Auburn Top-Tier Professional Hired By Prominent Side

Pittsburgh has announced the hiring of Allen Greene as its new athletics director.

Greene, 47, served as Auburn’s AD from 2018 to 2022 and has been the Senior Deputy Athletics Director and Chief Operating Officer at Tennessee since last November.

“Pitt Athletics serves as the front porch for the University of Pittsburgh, providing essential access for many within our campus, region, nation, and beyond,” said Pittsburgh Chancellor Joan Gabel. “With Allen Greene, we have a proven national leader who embodies the Pitt spirit and possesses the experience and qualities needed to enhance our athletics program both in competition and academia. Conversations with him and many who know him confirm that he is well-equipped to guide us into the evolving landscape of intercollegiate athletics.”

During his time at Auburn, Greene made the decision to fire football coach Gus Malzahn after the 2020 season and subsequently hired Bryan Harsin, which turned out to be a poor choice. Greene resigned in August 2022 with five months remaining on his contract, and Harsin was let go two months later after a little more than two seasons.

At Pittsburgh, Greene will take over for Heather Lyke, who was let go last month. He previously served as athletic director at Buffalo and held senior positions at Ole Miss and Notre Dame, where he played baseball in the late 1990s.
