THE FLATS – Damon Stoudamire, the head coach of the Georgia Tech men’s basketball program, has announced that Duncan Powell, a 6-8 forward who played at Sacramento State last season, has signed a grant-in-aid to join the team. He will be eligible to play for the Yellow Jackets for two seasons. Powell initially committed to North Carolina A&T, an HBCU in Greensboro, NC, after finishing high school.

Previously considered a top-100 high school prospect, Powell was the leading scorer (12.1 points per game) and rebounder (7.0 per game) for the Hornets last season. His rebounding performance ranked sixth in the Big Sky Conference, and he achieved a 49 percent field goal success rate. He scored in double figures in 21 games and recorded double-digit rebounds in 10 games, securing five double-doubles. Notably, he achieved the second triple-double in the Hornets’ Division I history, scoring 13 points, collecting 15 rebounds, and dishing out 10 assists against Bethesda.

Stoudamire commented, “Duncan is a versatile player who will enhance our overall depth. We are excited to welcome him to our team.”

Duncan Powell, ranked as the 84th prospect in the nation by ESPN in the 2021 class, attended DeSoto High School, where he averaged 21.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 5.0 assists during his junior year. Unfortunately, he missed his senior year due to an injury. He then enrolled at North Carolina A&T, becoming the highest-rated prospect ever signed by the HBCU. After redshirting during the 2021-22 season, Powell participated in 30 games for the Aggies in 2022-23, averaging 8.0 points and 5.7 rebounds in 22.5 minutes per game.

Powell is the fourth transfer to join the Yellow Jackets this offseason.
