Four-star linebacker recruit Amari Wallace has committed to the University of Miami, choosing the Hurricanes over several other major college football programs.
Gavin Nix, a four-star linebacker prospect from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, had narrowed down his top college choices to three schools – Miami, Florida State, and Oregon.
While the Oregon Ducks, now a member of the Big Ten conference, were an intriguing option as a national championship contender, it appeared that Nix was leaning towards staying in-state for his college football career, with both Miami and Florida State being viable options.
In the end, Nix made the decision to commit to the University of Miami Hurricanes, choosing Mario Cristobal’s program over the other finalists. This is a significant recruiting win for the Hurricanes, as they continue to build a strong defensive unit for the future.
“They align with all the qualities that were important to me during my decision-making process,” Nix expressed to Steve Wiltfong of On3. “Their commitment to me has remained unwavering and consistent. Miami has been by my side throughout, making us feel like a part of their family.”
Nix’s decision to commit to Miami marks a significant achievement for head coach Mario Cristobal and his team. As per 247Sports, Nix is ranked as the 11th best linebacker recruit in the 2025 class and is also recognized as a top-100 recruit overall, ranking at No. 88.
Nix’s comfort level with the coaching staff and their shared vision for the future played a key role in his commitment. Additionally, he was impressed by the positive atmosphere at Miami and the strong connection to NFL alumni, which further solidified his decision.
“Nix expressed his surprise and admiration for the unique aspect of Miami that set it apart from other schools. He was particularly struck by the constant presence of football alumni at the university. According to Nix, when you visit Miami, you are likely to encounter NFL legends who are approachable and willing to share their knowledge. Nix mentioned names like Jon Beason, Jonathan Vilma, Rohan Marley, Calais Campbell, and Edgerrin James as examples of former players who are readily available for conversations, which left a lasting impression on him.
Nix aspires to emulate the success of the football alumni at Miami, and it is worth highlighting that his own talent suggests he has the potential to achieve that. In his junior year, he demonstrated his abilities by recording impressive statistics: 42 tackles, including seven tackles for loss, five quarterback hits, and one sack, all accomplished in eight games. These numbers showcase his skill and indicate his potential for future success.
