Michael Dever, a wide receiver from Lubbock-Cooper High School has decided to stay home and join the Texas Tech football program

This week, the Texas Tech football program secured a commitment from a promising local talent, Michael Dever. The wide receiver from Lubbock-Cooper had previously been committed to Colorado State but has now pledged himself to the Red Raiders.

Standing at 6 feet 2 inches and weighing 175 pounds, Dever had an impressive performance as a junior, making 40 receptions for 672 yards and scoring 11 touchdowns for the Pirates. Additionally, he competed in the Class 5A UIL state track & field meet, showcasing his skills in the high jump and finishing sixth with a leap of 6 feet 2 inches.

Rated as a 3-star prospect by 247Sports.com, he is positioned as the 65th wide receiver nationally and the 62nd player in Texas. Apart from Texas Tech and Colorado State, he has received offers from programs such as Memphis, North Texas, Texas State, and Wyoming.

According to Gabe Brooks of 247Sports.com, Dever is described as a “high jump standout who utilizes his vertical explosion to consistently win contested passes. Despite his listed size, he plays larger due to his positive frame length and athleticism. He demonstrates remarkable body control in the air, along with the strength to outmatch high school defenders when contesting catches. Furthermore, he runs with a long-striding gait, capable of building speed.”

This recent recruiting success was particularly significant for Joey McGuire and the coaching staff, as it followed the departure of wide receiver Isaiah Robertson to SMU, just one day after his commitment to Texas Tech. Robertson, a 3-star prospect and ranked as the 107th player in Texas by 247Sports.com, had initially committed to Tech in November of the previous year.

Currently, with 17 committed players for the 2025 class, Texas Tech’s recruiting class holds the 41st spot nationally, placing them sixth in the Big 12.
