BURLINGTON, CT (WFSB) – State police have confirmed that the deceased person found in a Burlington home is the woman who was scheduled to be sentenced for the death of a University of Connecticut professor.
Troopers were dispatched to the residence of 76-year-old Linda Kosuda-Bigazzi on Smith Lane in Burlington at approximately 10:40 a.m. on Wednesday.
Prior to their arrival, a person reported to the troopers that they were unable to reach the home’s resident. Responding troopers’ attempts to contact anyone inside the residence were unsuccessful.
With assistance from the local fire department, state police entered the home.
“An unresponsive individual was located within the residence, who was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene,” state police reported.
The deceased was identified as Kosuda-Bigazzi.
Kosuda-Bigazzi had been charged in connection with the death of UConn pathology professor Pierluigi Bigazzi. The 84-year-old died in 2017.
Police stated that Linda Kosuda-Bigazzi killed her husband in their home and then kept his body in the basement while continuing to collect his paychecks from UConn.
Investigators discovered the body in February 2018 during a welfare check after UConn had not heard from him.
Kosuda-Bigazzi had pleaded guilty to manslaughter and larceny charges and was scheduled to be sentenced on Wednesday.
Smith Lane remained closed during the investigation.
In a statement, her attorney Patrick Tomasiewicz said, “The passing of Mrs. Kosuda-Bigazzi was not anticipated. We were honored to be her legal counsel and did our best to defend her in a complex case for the past six years. She was a very independent woman who was always in control of her own destiny.”
