Calais Campbell signing with Dolphins: Six-time Pro Bowl pass rusher returning for 17th season, per report

The Miami Dolphins are enhancing their defensive line by bringing in experienced player Calais Campbell. According to NFL Media, the team is set to sign the veteran defensive end, but the specific contract details have not been revealed yet.

At 37 years old, Campbell is gearing up for his 17th season in the NFL, and this move to the Dolphins represents a return of sorts for him. Having played college football at the University of Miami and having been a second-round selection of the Arizona Cardinals in 2008, he spent nine seasons with the Cardinals, making a name for himself as a premier pass rusher and earning a spot on the NFL’s All-Decade Team for the 2010s.

Subsequently, he joined the Jaguars for three seasons starting in 2017, followed by a three-year tenure with the Ravens before his recent stint with the Falcons in the prior season.

During his time with Atlanta in 2023, Campbell played in all 17 games and recorded 6.5 sacks, 56 tackles, and 17 hits on the quarterback.

His presence in Miami comes as a crucial boost for the Dolphins team, which is grappling with the aftermath of injuries sustained in 2023. Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips both suffered injuries that ended their season, potentially affecting their availability at the beginning of the 2024 season.

Additionally, the team faced the departure of Christian Wilkins due to free agency. Consequently, Campbell might shoulder a significant workload early in the season, lining up alongside defensive stalwarts Shaq Barrett and rookie first-round pick Chop Robinson.

Throughout his career, Campbell has amassed an impressive 105.5 sacks, 254 hits on quarterbacks, and has received recognition with six Pro Bowl selections.
