Georgia Tech Adds Second TE to the 2025 Class

Kevin Roche, a 6’9″ and 245-pound tight end from Darien High School in Darien, CT, returned to the Flats over the weekend following an impressive showing at a prospect camp a few weeks earlier. Roche expressed his fondness for the city and the coaching staff.

“When I arrived, it marked my second visit to Atlanta after attending the [prospect] camp just a few weeks ago,” Roche remarked. “I have a great appreciation for it. I admire the city and the campus — I found it to be truly remarkable. I appreciate its prime location right in the heart of the city. It’s incredibly beautiful. Additionally, I had the opportunity to converse with the coaches. They, along with the players, treated me exceptionally well.”

During the weekend, Roche and his family met with Jackets head coach Brent Key to discuss various matters. Midway through their conversation, Coach Key expressed his desire to have Roche at Georgia Tech, and Roche’s decision was an easy one.

“I already had a good feeling about Georgia Tech going into the weekend,” Roche recounted. “My family and I agreed that Georgia Tech would be a great fit for me. Then, when I visited the campus, interacted with the coaches, and witnessed their approach — they treated my family well, my little brother came along and loved it as well.

“I was in a meeting with Coach Key, and about 45 minutes to an hour into our conversation covering various topics, Coach Key looked me in the eyes and said, ‘I want you to come here.’ I immediately responded, ‘Alright, I’m coming!’ He was very excited. All the coaches I spoke with were enthusiastic and shared many positive things.”

One significant reason that prompted Roche to commit immediately and stood out to him and his family was the culture at Georgia Tech, unlike anything they had seen in any other college football program.

“It was the culture of the coaches, the team, and the program,” Roche explained. “It’s unique and not something I’ve seen much elsewhere in college football, where all the coaches are fully invested. They genuinely care about all the players. They’re not just focused on winning football games; they’re dedicated to developing players as individuals. This really stood out to me because when I graduate and whatever happens, I’ll have earned a degree at Georgia Tech and grown as a person.”

Roche is relieved to have concluded the recruiting process but is grateful to be continuing his academic journey at a place he truly desired to be.

“My entire recruiting experience was fantastic,” Roche expressed. “It’s been a lengthy process, especially over the past few months. But I’m pleased to end up at a place I really like and was eager to commit to.”

As someone from Connecticut, Roche understands that most Georgia Tech fans haven’t seen him play. When asked what Tech fans can expect from him, he described himself as a dynamic, two-way player.

“Fans can expect me to be a dynamic player,” Roche stated. “I fit well into their offense, especially with how they involve their tight ends. I’ve been playing a lot of wide receiver for my team this year, so that’s what they’ll see on my tape. I’ve been diligently improving my blocking skills, which is a significant focus for me. Fans will witness a two-way player who can contribute to both the run and passing game. That’s where I take pride.”
