Gerry Glasco named Texas Tech softball head coach

Gerry Glasco, the former Louisiana head coach, has been appointed as the tenth softball head coach in Texas Tech history. With a strong resume, Glasco is expected to bring stability and success to the chaotic program. At Louisiana, he achieved a remarkable 300-88 record (.773) over seven seasons, including five Sun Belt Conference titles.

Texas Tech Athletic Director Kirch Hocutt emphasized the importance of finding a leader to maintain momentum in the program, stating that Glasco is the ideal choice due to his elite-level success throughout his career. The university is excited to welcome Glasco and his wife, Vickie, to the Texas Tech community. Glasco’s experience at Louisiana is notable, where his teams consistently won at least 40 games in each of his six full seasons. In contrast, Texas Tech has not achieved 40 wins in a season since 2019 and has only won more than 30 games once since 2020. Glasco’s appointment aims to bring a new era of success to the program.

Houston fires A.D. Pezman

In a surprise move, the University of Houston has fired its athletic director, Chris Pezman, a former Houston football player. The decision was described as “difficult but necessary” by University President Renu Khator, who cited the need to adapt to changes in collegiate athletics.Pezman’s tenure, which began in 2017, was marked by both successes and failures. He hired Dana Holgorsen as football coach in 2019, but the team struggled under his leadership, going 31-28 in five seasons before being replaced by Willie Fritz.

On the positive side, Pezman oversaw significant growth in the Houston basketball program, which achieved four conference titles and reached the Final Four and Elite Eight during his time. However, his inability to secure substantial funding likely contributed to his departure. Houston has the smallest operating athletic budget in the Big 12, making it challenging to compete with other programs in the conference.
