Miami now has just one wide receiver in the Class of 2025 following the loss of commitment from Malachi Toney of Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage.

The 5-foot-10, 182-pound athlete had been committed to the Hurricanes since August 2023 and recently moved up from the 2026 class to 2025. He has an ’89’ rating from the 247Sports Rankings Council.

According to InsideTheU on Wednesday, Toney’s signing with the Hurricanes is not assured, as schools like Alabama and Oregon are also showing interest.

So far this fall, Toney has recorded 38 receptions for 585 yards and eight touchdowns through six games.

Miami’s only wide receiver commitment comes from Daylyn Upshaw of Phenix City (Ala.) Central, who has been among Alabama’s most effective pass catchers at one of the state’s leading programs. Auburn is also interested in the 5-foot-11.5, 180-pound player.

Kevin Beard, Mario Cristobal, and the Hurricanes recruiting team are continuing to pursue talents like Vernell Brown III, Joshua Moore, Dallas Wilson, Tyler Williams, Derek Meadows, and others.

Currently, the Hurricanes have 21 commitments for this recruiting cycle.
