UConn’s Paige Bueckers Makes Major Announcement on Basketball Future

UConn’s standout guard Paige Bueckers caused a surprise by choosing to skip the 2024 WNBA Draft and play one more season with the Huskies. However, she revealed on Friday morning that the upcoming season at UConn is probably her final one. According to a post by Hearst reporter Maggie Vanoni, Bueckers affirmed during a media event that she intends for this next season to be her last in college, while also emphasizing that she prefers not to overthink the future.

Bueckers actually has two NCAA eligibility remaining. She obtained a medical redshirt after tearing her ACL and sitting out the 2022-23 season, and she also has an extra year of eligibility due to the disruptions caused by COVID-19. As a result, she could compete for UConn until 2026 if she chose to do so.

Although Bueckers didn’t explicitly confirm that the 2024-25 season would be her final one with Geno Auriemma and UConn, today’s announcement indicates that she is aiming to join the WNBA sooner rather than later.
