Reed Sheppard has formally inked his rookie-scale deal with the Houston Rockets, as per the team’s recent announcement. Per the NBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), the financial details for first-round selections are determined based on their respective draft positions.

Based on information from HoopsHype, Sheppard’s scaled contract, following his selection as the third overall pick in the 2024 first round, is as outlined below:

• 2024-25: $10.1 million
• 2025-26: $10.6 million
• 2026-27: $11.1 million
• 2027-28: $14.0 million

The last two years of Sheppard’s contract are at the discretion of the team, whereas the first two seasons are already fully guaranteed.

Standing at 6 feet 2 inches and weighing 182 pounds, Sheppard, who plays as a guard, entered the draft early after completing his freshman year at Kentucky. He was honored as Freshman of the Year by both the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, and received All-America Honorable Mention by the Associated Press.

When assessed per 40 minutes played, Sheppard achieved an average of 17.2 points, 6.2 assists, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.4 steals, while showcasing shooting percentages of 53.6% from the field, 52.1% from 3-point range, and 83.1% on free throws. He ranked eighth nationally in steals per game and led in 3-point shooting percentage with a minimum of 30 attempts.

Since the 2001-02 season, Sheppard has followed in the footsteps of Tyrese Haliburton and Stephen Curry as one of the only Division I players to maintain averages of at least 16.0 points, 6.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 2.5 made 3-pointers per 40 minutes, while also achieving a true shooting percentage of 60.0% or higher. Furthermore, he became the third Division I freshman to record at least 80 steals and 75 3-pointers in a single season.

He recently turned 20, and both of his parents, Jeff and Stacey, were standout basketball players at Kentucky in the 1990s.
