Dallas Stars Trade RFA Centre

Reports are in that center Ty Dellandrea has been dealt. He’s been traded to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2025 draft. The Stars have chosen to transition while the Sharks have bolstered their roster with a depth player.

Dellandrea has spent his entire four-year NHL career with the Stars, tallying two goals and seven assists for a total of nine points in 42 games this season. The Toronto native holds a Corsi for of 45.6 and a relative Corsi of -9.4.

Throughout his 151-game career, he’s recorded 14 goals and 28 assists, amounting to 42 points. Dallas initially selected him as the 13th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft.

At the international level, Dellandrea has represented his home country of Canada. He secured gold at the Hlinka-Gretzky Tournament in 2018 and was part of the victorious 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship team.

During the 2022-23 season, he played on the second line alongside Tyler Seguin and Mason Marchment. However, he saw less game time this season.

What It Means

The Sharks stand to benefit from the trade involving Ty Dellandrea, as the 23-year-old former Flint Firebirds standout had a turbulent season under head coach Peter DeBoer. Despite participating in all 82 games during the 2022-23 season, he was limited to playing in only half the games in 2023-24.

He spent a significant number of games as a healthy scratch this season, but there’s optimism that he can reclaim his spot in the lineup. Dellandrea participated in the Stanley Cup Playoffs but was benched in favor of rookie Mavrik Bourque for Game 6 of the Western Conference Final against the Edmonton Oilers.

Perhaps this year will mark a positive turn for the highly-regarded forward. Consistent playing time is his primary goal, and some lineup adjustments may finally provide Dellandrea with that opportunity.
