Georgia Tech has made a late-night splash in the transfer portal by securing the commitment of 6’8 forward Duncan Powell. Powell, who has experience playing for Sacramento State and NC A&T, joins the Yellow Jackets after a season with the Hornets. Damon Stoudamire has made another significant addition to the Georgia Tech roster with the commitment of 6’8 forward Duncan Powell. Powell brings a wealth of experience and size to the frontcourt, having played in 29 games last season, including 23 starts. He averaged over 12 points per game and 7 rebounds per game, ranking sixth in the Big Sky in rebounds. Powell also showed his versatility by averaging 2.0 assists and shooting 49% from the field and 69% from the free throw line.
Powell’s impressive stats include 21 games with double-digit scoring, six games with 10+ rebounds, and five double-doubles. He even recorded a triple-double with 13 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists against Bethesda. Powell’s rebounding prowess was particularly notable, with 81 rebounds coming on the offensive glass, ranking second in the Big Sky.
Before joining Sacramento State, Powell played two seasons at North Carolina A&T, where he was named to the Colonial Athletic Association all-Rookie team. He averaged 8.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 22.5 minutes per game, with a season-high 20 points against College of Charleston.
Powell’s high school career was marked by impressive averages of 21.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 5.0 assists. His addition to the Georgia Tech roster is a testament to Damon Stoudamire’s recruiting prowess, which has already brought in several high-impact transfers and a top-ranked recruiting class. With Powell’s size and experience, the Yellow Jackets are poised to make a strong run in the upcoming season.
