Breaking Now: From the Paint to the Gridiron: 6’11” Prospect’s Journey to OT at Georgia

Jahzare Jackson, a towering figure at 6-foot-11, has made a significant pivot from the world of elite junior basketball to the gridiron, committing recently to the prestigious football program at the University of Georgia. Jackson, formerly a standout in the Overtime Elite league, designed for top basketball prospects seeking an alternative route to the NBA, opted for a change in direction following a stint in the NBA draft where he went undrafted.

Having initially excelled in basketball within the competitive Overtime Elite league, which was established in 2021 to cater to young prospects aged 16 to 20, Jackson’s decision to transition back to football, a sport he had left behind during his early high school years due to a growth spurt that tilted him towards basketball, marks a remarkable shift in his athletic journey.

During the recruitment process, Jackson, who had commenced visits in June, ultimately elected to join Georgia, favoring the program over competing offers from Florida State, Florida, Mississippi State, and Arkansas. His decision was influenced significantly by the welcoming atmosphere from coaches and players alike, coupled with his affinity for the state of Georgia where Overtime Elite is headquartered.

Expressing his enthusiasm for this new chapter, Jackson, currently weighing in at 340 pounds, articulated his eagerness to contribute to Georgia’s football program starting next month. His sights are set on securing starting opportunities by the 2025 season, confident in his athletic prowess and determined to maximize his potential on the football field.

In a statement to The Athletic, Jackson conveyed his readiness to embrace the challenges ahead, emphasizing his trust in his abilities to excel through dedication and hard work. His journey from hardwood to turf highlights not only his versatility but also his resilience in pursuing new opportunities in the realm of college sports.
