Breaking: The Rockets Can Sign Top-Notch Star To a Rookie-Scale Extension This Offseason

According to NBA insider Brett Siegel from ClutchPoints, the Houston Rockets are open to trading Jalen Green.

The Rockets have the option to sign Green to a rookie-scale extension this offseason. If they don’t, he will become a restricted free agent next year.

“While many in Houston still believe in Green’s potential as a long-term scoring leader at shooting guard, the Rockets are more willing to consider trade discussions involving him,” Siegel reported.

Houston reportedly tried to trade Green to the Brooklyn Nets for Mikal Bridges, who was later sent to the New York Knicks, according to NBA sources speaking to Hoops Wire.

The Rockets have also considered trading Green for stars like Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns, Miami All-Star Jimmy Butler, and Paul George from the Los Angeles Clippers, sources revealed.

Last season, the 22-year-old Green averaged 19.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.3 blocks, shooting 42.3% from the field, 33.2% from three-point range, and 80.4% from the free-throw line.

The Rockets finished the 2023-24 season with a 41-41 record, marking their fourth consecutive year missing the playoffs.

Drafted second overall in the 2021 NBA Draft, Green has career averages of 19.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.3 blocks.

As reported by NBA insiders Sam Amick and Anthony Slater of The Athletic, the Rockets are interested in acquiring Donovan Mitchell, Devin Booker, and Zion Williamson. However, none of these players are available, as Mitchell recently signed an extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and both Booker and Williamson are considered franchise players for the Suns and Pelicans, respectively.

Since the departure of James Harden, who requested a trade in 2020-21, the Rockets have been without a superstar. During the Harden era, they also had notable players like Russell Westbrook, Chris Paul, and Dwight Howard.
