Breaking: Virginia Tech Hokies Men’s Basketball Picks Up a 2025 Commitment from 4-Star Center
Making an impression on Fairfax native Christian Gurdak, the rising Gonzaga College High School Center has a consensus 4-star rating, a big season ahead for his senior year, and a trip to join the Hokie Family in 2025. GO HOKIES!!!
Hokies Get a Huge Commitment from Gonzaga
Let’s not kid ourselves. When it comes to national recognition in high school basketball, the spotlight often shines on the DC Metro Area and the schools associated with the Archdiocese of Washington as well as Virginia’s Diocese of Arlington. Names such as Ireton, O’Connell, Saint John’s, DeMatha, and Paul VI are prominent in high school hoops, but among them, Gonzaga in NW Washington, DC, stands out as a significant rival.
Historically, the Hokies have not had much success in recruiting basketball talent from the DC Catholic schools. Perhaps that trend can be reversed. Center Christian Gurdak, a highly rated 4-star prospect, has chosen to commit to Virginia Tech over Notre Dame, a school known for its strong connections with Gonzaga. Gurdak is expected to make a big impact at Gonzaga this season, and now he is set to become a member of the Hokies in 2025.
Gurdak had received offers from Notre Dame, Penn State, Iowa, and Maryland in addition to Virginia Tech. It’s clear that Head Coach Mike Young and his staff made a compelling impression on both Gurdak and his family.
Thank you to @CoachMKYoung, @CoachWebbie and the entire @HokiesMBB coaching staff and team for an amazing official visit to Virginia Tech this weekend. It was a great visit! pic.twitter.com/jqt6tbtuP4

Standing at a reported 6’9” and 250 pounds (though there might be some exaggeration there, as 24/7 lists him at 6’10”), Gurdak has the physical stature and the potential for further growth to fulfill a much-needed role as a Center or Power Forward in Coach Young’s offensive strategy. Virginia Tech has perennially faced challenges with lack of height, and with the possibility of further growth and development at the college level, this young athlete has significant potential to contribute to the resurgence of the Hokies.
NEWS: 2025 4⭐️ Christian Gurdak tells @LeagueRDY he’s committed to Virginia Tech.
Gurdak is a high energy, 6-10 big man with an excellent low-post game. Has great touch around the basket and does the majority of his work in the paint.

The Virginia Tech Men’s Basketball Team has consistently required a dominant presence in the key and on the boards. Gurdak will have the opportunity to demonstrate his ability to fulfill this role in the upcoming 2025-2026 season. However, we will have to be patient until then.
