Breaking: Yankees Urged to Pursue Blockbuster Trade for $30 Million High-Star Replacement

Yankees manager Aaron Boone could use more offense for his lineup. Could Chicago Cubs slugger Cody Bellinger be a trade target?

As the July 30 trade deadline approaches, the New York Yankees’ needs are becoming more evident, particularly in the first base position. Some are suggesting that general manager Brian Cashman should consider pursuing outfielder/first baseman Cody Bellinger from the Chicago Cubs.

Evan Massey of Sports Illustrated believes it’s a potential move worth exploring. With Anthony Rizzo sidelined due to injury and ongoing speculations about the Yankees aiming for an upgrade, Bellinger’s name has emerged as a new target for New York.

The Chicago Cubs’ recent struggles, currently in last place in the National League Central with a 37-44 record as of June 27, make Bellinger’s availability for a trade more plausible. Meanwhile, despite the Yankees facing their own challenges, holding a 52-30 record and a one-game lead in the American League East, they are in a relatively better position to pursue trade opportunities compared to the Cubs.

Bellinger, while not matching his impressive 2023 performance, remains a formidable addition to any lineup. His contract situation with the Cubs includes opt-out clauses after 2024 and 2025, potentially making him a half-season rental for interested teams. In the current season, Bellinger has posted solid numbers, hitting .273 with nine homers, 34 RBIs, and 32 runs scored through 291 plate appearances.

The idea of Bellinger joining the Yankees is not new, as rumors of his potential fit with the team emerged during his standout 2023 season and subsequent free agency. While the Yankees initially acquired Juan Soto, discussions around Bellinger are likely to resurface considering the team’s continued need for offensive firepower and the Cubs’ decline in contention.

Ultimately, Bellinger’s addition could significantly bolster the Yankees’ lineup, especially addressing the underperforming right side of the team’s infield.
