BYU Wide Receiver Eyeing NFL Draft After 2024 Season.

BYU standout wide receiver Chase Roberts intends to participate in the NFL Draft after the 2024 season, as revealed in a discussion with the Royal Blue Collective. Roberts stated that he is more inclined to enter the draft as he completes school and moves forward. “I believe it might require an injury, though I hope it doesn’t come to that, but some event to lead me back…currently, the intention is to end the season on a high note and then depart.”

After this season, Roberts will still have one year left to play. He is a junior wearing a red shirt who has been part of the program since 2021.

Roberts has been one of the top two wide receivers for BYU all season long. He has caught 31 passes in eight games, which is the same amount as the team’s leader in receptions. He trails behind Darius Lassiter with 497 receiving yards. Roberts is the person BYU always turns to for advancing the chains. He leads the team with 27 first downs.

Most notably, he serves as a team captain for the 2024 BYU football team, which has achieved an impressive 8-0 start due to his exceptional leadership.

If Roberts decides to skip his last season and turn professional, BYU will not have its top two wide receivers from 2024 in 2025. Darius Lassiter, who is in his final year of school, will finish his studies in 2024.

Luckily, the BYU offense has benefited from strong recruiting at the wide receiver position by Fesi Sitake. The Cougars have a former highly-ranked player, Cody Hagen, ready to play, as well as freshmen Dom McKenzie and Tei Nacua. The Cougars have also secured a pledge from highly-rated wide receiver LaMason Waller.

Following the 2024 season, BYU could consider searching the transfer portal for a wide receiver addition. Thanks to the ample high school recruiting efforts by BYU in recent years, the wide receiver position is set to be a strong point for the BYU offense going forward.
