Gophers basketball adds Toledo transfer to 2024-25 roster
MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) – When speaking at the summer workouts a few weeks ago, Ben Johnson did not dismiss the idea of adding another player to the University of Minnesota men’s basketball team’s 2024-25 roster.
On Monday, the team revealed that they have enlisted Toledo transfer Tyler Cochran, a 6-2 guard, for his last year of eligibility.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Tyler Cochran to our team,” Johnson expressed. “He is a young man of high character and brings valuable leadership experience and productivity. Coming from a successful winning program, Tyler adds versatility and experience to our roster.”
Cochran achieved Second Team All-Mac honors last year and was named the league’s Co-Defensive Player of the year. He posted an average of 14.4 points and led the team with 6.4 rebounds per game as Toledo secured the MAC regular season title. In conference play, Cochran maintained an average of 15.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game while shooting 52.3 percent from the field.
Last year, Cochran also achieved his 1,000th career point. His addition brings depth to a Gophers’ backcourt already featuring Mike Mitchell Jr., Brennan Rigsby, Femi Odukale, Isaac Asuma, Caleb Williams, and Lu’Cye Patterson
