Despite the College Football Playoff expanding, Alabama’s chances of being eliminated could happen as soon as tomorrow evening.
Desmond Howard evaluated Alabama’s chances in the playoffs on ‘Get Up’ on Friday before their match on Rocky Top. Given their recent performance in the past two weeks, he believes that their season is at stake when they face the Vols.
Howard stated that he believes Kalen DeBoer’s team will be playing for their season tomorrow. I am aware that they achieved a significant victory against Georgia at home, but as you mentioned, they followed that up with a more disappointing loss against Vanderbilt the following week. They also didn’t appear impressive last week against South Carolina.
Howard stated that he thinks ‘Bama is putting their season on the line while playing against Tennessee in Knoxville.
Once more, Alabama finds themselves in this situation for The Third Saturday of October after their last two games. Despite defeating Georgia, an unexpected loss to Vanderbilt and a close call against South Carolina the next week have raised some worries about Alabama’s performance.
Their upcoming schedule is proving to be equally unhelpful for them right now. After playing against the Volunteers, Howard only has one more important game on their schedule. However, it’s also a game that they could potentially lose, depending on their opponent and the location of the match.
Howard pointed out that if the team were to lose to Tennessee after the game, their only chance of earning points against a ranked team on their schedule would likely come from the LSU game in Death Valley on the road.
Alabama, with a record of 5-1, should feel confident about their chances of making the playoff. However, despite the events of the past two weeks and the future events in the next four weeks, Howard believes that everything is in jeopardy for them in Neyland on Saturday.
I maintain my belief in Alabama, even though, as I mentioned before, we use a 12-team playoff system. Howard said they would have a total of two defeats. “I believe that they would likely be eliminated from playoff contention if they lose to Tennessee.”
