ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit had some harsh words for Florida State following their surprising loss to Georgia Tech
Kirk Herbstreit didn’t hold back.
The ESPN college football analyst took a jab at Florida State after the No. 10 Seminoles suffered a surprising 24-21 defeat to Georgia Tech in a Week 0 upset in Dublin, Ireland, on Saturday.
“Wow, tough loss for the Noles in Ireland against a solid GT team,” Herbstreit wrote on X after the game. “The silver lining is that with the new 12-team playoff, there are still plenty of chances to get back in the mix. Regroup and keep fighting!”

Herbstreit became a controversial figure among Florida State fans last year, often speaking out against the Seminoles’ inclusion in the College Football Playoff.
He believed that Florida State didn’t deserve a place in the top four, especially following quarterback Jordan Travis’s knee injury.
On Saturday in Dublin, Florida State fans booed Herbstreit during ESPN’s “College Football Gameday” broadcast.
Florida State finished last season with a 13-0 record and won the ACC title, yet they became the first unbeaten Power 5 conference champion to be excluded from the Playoff, which led to significant controversy.
Head coach Mike Norvell expressed that he was “disgusted” and “infuriated” by the snub.
However, Georgia later overwhelmed Florida State with a 63-3 victory in the Orange Bowl, which helped diminish some of the outrage over their exclusion.
This season has begun poorly for Florida State. Quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, who joined the team from Oregon State, struggled in his first game, completing 19 of 27 passes for only 193 yards. “We had very limited possessions,” said Florida State head coach Mike Norvell. “Every snap in that game was extremely important.”
