Everton takeover: John Textor deal faces collapse – Keith Wyness

Keith Wyness, the former chief of Everton, has indicated that John Textor’s potential acquisition is losing momentum despite some significant positives.

In a discussion on the recent episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old, who previously served as the CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009 and now operates a football consultancy advising top-tier clubs, mentioned that the American entrepreneur might be encountering obstacles in advancing discussions with the Premier League due to the requirement of divesting his ownership stake in Crystal Palace.

Football Insider uncovered on Monday (10 June) that Textor aims to finalize a complete takeover of Everton after expressing interest in acquiring the club. Nevertheless, according to Premier League regulations, an individual or entity cannot possess shares in more than one top-flight club, necessitating Textor to sell his 45% ownership in Crystal Palace.

Besides Crystal Palace, Textor also holds interests in Lyon in France, Botafogo in the Brazilian top division, and RWD Molenbeek in Belgium.

Wyness suggested that Textor could have been the fastest candidate to successfully navigate through the Premier League’s owners’ and directors’ assessment process.

Speaking on Football Insider’s Insider Track podcast, he mentioned, “The Textor agreement has not been conclusively terminated. It appears that he is facing challenges with the Premier League concerning the transfer of his Crystal Palace shares to a trust, which would enable him to engage with Everton.”

“Without a doubt, he would likely clear the owners’ and directors’ test promptly due to his current position at Palace. This would greatly work in his favor. However, the enthusiasm and attention from his consortium appear to be diminishing at the moment.”
