Final game at Coliseum: “Reality is sinking in” Perhaps the team will change course with sufficient agitation.

Happy Friday, Athletics Nation!

The reality is setting in, and I find myself wishing I could go back in time to snag Diamond Level seats for the final A’s game at Oakland Coliseum on September 26 against the Texas Rangers, which has unfortunately sold out.

It’s fitting that Marcus Semien will be there. The former Athletics shortstop and current World Series champion is a Bay Area native. The A’s didn’t offer him a competitive extension after the 2020 season, which may have marked a turning point for the organization, signaling a shift away from being “Rooted in Oakland” and a commitment to building a genuine World Series contender from the team’s last playoff roster.

The A’s have launched promotions for late September games, updated their profile picture on X to honor the Coliseum, and shared reminders of all the great memories from six decades of Athletics baseball that owner John Fisher is now taking away from fans and the city of Oakland.

It seems that there would be strong demand for more seating, which could be provided if the A’s opened up Mt. Davis. However, that doesn’t seem to be on the table right now. Maybe the team will reconsider if enough people express their concerns.

To summarize: The A’s are departing from Oakland, proudly announcing that the last game at the Coliseum was a sellout, yet refusing to increase seating despite strong demand. They’re emphasizing the team’s storied history at the Coliseum, which is sadly coming to a close due to the organization walking away from talks for a new ballpark in Oakland and opting to relocate to Las Vegas instead.

Very classy move, Fisher.
