Florida State Gaining Momentum in Pursuit of Elite Defensive Back
Florida State is once again positioning itself as a serious contender for a top defensive prospect. The Seminoles have long carried the reputation of “DBU,” thanks to a steady pipeline of standout defensive backs who’ve gone on to thrive at the professional level.
That tradition continues today, with former FSU players like Derwin James, Jalen Ramsey, Renardo Green, Jarrian Jones, Azareye’h Thomas, and Kevin Knowles making their mark across the NFL. Maintaining that legacy remains a priority for the program as it builds for the future.
Four-Star Defensive Back Includes FSU Among Finalists
Four-star safety Tavares Harrington recently narrowed his recruitment to ten schools, and Florida State made the list. The Seminoles are joined by Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, Michigan, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Arkansas, and Nebraska.
Harrington is planning his first visit to Tallahassee next month, giving Florida State an opportunity to strengthen its position and potentially lock in an official visit. He already has trips scheduled to Georgia and Alabama.
Coming off a strong junior season at Mount Carmel High School, Harrington recorded 50 tackles, six tackles for loss, one sack, a forced fumble, nine pass breakups, three interceptions, and a blocked field goal. His performance helped lead his team to a fourth straight state championship.
The 6-foot-3 defensive back is ranked No. 109 overall in the 2027 class, as well as one of the top defensive backs and prospects in Illinois, according to composite rankings.
Looking Ahead
Florida State currently has five verbal commitments in its 2027 recruiting class, which sits at No. 19 nationally. Landing a talent like Harrington would further strengthen the Seminoles’ future defensive lineup.
