Former Wisconsin Badgers Safety To Debut As Head Coach For LA Rams On Saturday
The Los Angeles Rams will play the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday in their second preseason game of the year. Earlier this week, it was announced that former Wisconsin Badgers safety Aubrey Pleasant will serve as the Rams’ head coach for this game.
Head coach Sean McVay revealed on Thursday that Pleasant, the team’s assistant head coach, will take over the head coaching duties for this game while McVay steps back and even spends some time in the broadcast booth.
Pleasant has had multiple stints with the Rams, initially as the team’s cornerbacks coach from 2017 to 2020, and then returning last season as the defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator.
Before transitioning to coaching in 2010, Pleasant played four seasons as a defensive back for Wisconsin from 2005 to 2008. During his college career, he accumulated 80 total tackles, including 2.0 sacks, across 40 games.
In recent years, the Sean McVay coaching tree has produced several promising young NFL head coaches, including Matt LaFleur (Packers), Zac Taylor (Bengals), and Kevin O’Connell (Vikings).
Pleasant will look to seize this opportunity on Saturday, and it’s possible he could be the next assistant coach under McVay to secure a head coaching position elsewhere in the future.
