Fly half Lloyd Evans has spoken about his excitement about testing himself in the BKT United Rugby Championship this season – and believes he can grow into his role with more ‘time in the saddle’.

The 28-year-old joined Rodney Parade this summer after spending over a decade with Gloucester, and he has started the first two matches of the season.

Evans will be looking to reclaim the ten jersey this Saturday evening as the Hollywoodbets Sharks come to Newport (kick-off at 5:15 PM).

“It’s all about getting experience and fitting in with the team for me,” he said.

“In this league, you’re on the road a lot, facing various teams with different styles.”

“The games against the Ospreys and this one are completely different, with their own tempos, but I find it exciting to tackle those challenges.”

“I feel we’re making positive strides, and we have a crucial home match against the Sharks next week that we need to focus on. We have to keep pushing forward.”

Reflecting on the recent defeat to Leinster, Evans commented, “That was a tough one. I’m proud of our effort for 50 or 60 minutes; we matched them physically and stayed competitive, but we fell short towards the end.”

“There are positives to take away, but it’s hard to accept the final score.”
