Frustrated J.T. Miller Criticizes Rangers Fans Once More
There have been few bright spots this season for the New York Rangers, who are poised to miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the second straight year. The team already dealt its top scorer, Artemi Panarin, to the Los Angeles Kings earlier this month, and more roster moves could be coming with the 2026 NHL Trade Deadline fast approaching.
Despite their struggles at home, the Rangers nearly staged an improbable comeback Monday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Madison Square Garden. After falling behind 4-0, they rallied to tie the game at 4-4 before ultimately losing in overtime.
Team captain J.T. Miller, who has faced mounting criticism for his performance and postgame remarks, took issue with fans who booed during the game.
Miller Says Booing Was “Demoralizing”
Speaking to reporters after the loss, Miller admitted that hearing boos from the crowd after the team fell behind 3-0 was discouraging.
“The momentum shifted back in the second period,” Miller explained. “We had a strong start, drew a penalty, scored on the power play — and then suddenly it’s 3-0 and the boos start again. It’s tough. It feels like an emotional roller coaster sometimes.”
As captain of one of the league’s storied Original Six franchises, Miller may have expected a passionate response from fans — especially considering the steep ticket prices and the team’s disappointing results.
The numbers underscore the frustration. The Rangers have gone 99 days without a home win and have been shut out in seven games at Madison Square Garden this season (nine overall), the worst such total in the NHL.
Miller Lands on Injured Reserve
Compounding matters, the Rangers announced Tuesday that Miller has been placed on Injured Reserve. No details about the injury have been released, particularly surprising given that he played the full game against Columbus without any visible issues.
Fresh off helping Team USA capture a gold medal in Milan last month, Miller will now be sidelined as the Rangers limp toward the finish of what has been a dismal regular season — one the organization will likely want to forget as soon as it finally concludes.
