Georgia Tech Football: Could We Possibly See ’26 DL Sensation In The Flats, A Deeper Look

Tyson Bacon may not be a widely recognized name just yet, but that’s set to change soon.

Currently rated a three-star prospect on the Rivals site, Bacon has garnered ten offers to date, including his first from UAB, as well as offers from Jacksonville State University, Troy, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Washington, LSU, Arkansas State, Mississippi State, and Michigan. Tennessee has shown significant interest in the 2026 defensive lineman from Hoover, Alabama.

Standing at 6 feet 5 inches, Bacon, who was born in Georgia, received an offer from Georgia Tech on May 31. He explained to All Yellow Jackets how the offer came about:

“I performed really well at the camp, going seven or eight straight reps without a break. The coach told me that was the moment to show what I was made of, and I knew I had to step up,” Bacon shared. “I love it there; I have a lot of family around, and Coach Pope and Coach Simpson are great.”

Bacon also expressed optimism about Georgia Tech’s football program, stating, “I genuinely believe they can make a comeback. With Coach Simpson—who is an excellent coach—they’ll be in good shape.”

A fun fact about Tyson is that his mother played a key role in shaping him into the athlete he is today.

“My mom pushed me when I was less motivated—after practice, she’d have me run and do fifty push-ups a day. She was preparing me. By the time I got to eighth grade, I was 6’2 and 230 pounds, well-prepared.”

Now that we’ve covered the Yellow Jackets, let’s discuss why Hoover’s defensive lineman is poised to see his stock rise significantly by the end of the season.

The key factor is versatility. Last season, Bacon excelled by playing both edge and interior lineman positions, displaying a powerful combination of strength, speed, and relentless energy. Time and again, he managed to disrupt offensive lines, either tackling ball carriers directly or chasing them down from behind. Beyond his physical skills, Bacon’s mentality sets him apart—he’s a hard worker who believes there’s still untapped potential within him.
