According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, addressing the Giants’ deficiencies before the MLB trade deadline requires more than just one player. “The Giants could use some middle-infield help,” noted Feinsand, pointing out that while Mike Yastrzemski’s oblique strain may not sideline him for long, bolstering the outfield lineup remains crucial. San Francisco’s subpar record and negative run differential underscore the team’s imperative to enhance several areas for a stronger postseason contention.

One intriguing target to monitor is Amed Rosario, the versatile utility man from the Tampa Bay Rays. Despite Tampa Bay’s recent improvement, their overall season has been somewhat underwhelming, possibly prompting the front office to consider trading expiring contracts for promising prospects.

Rosario, approaching free agency at season’s end, has garnered attention with his impressive hitting streaks. Currently posting a season slash line of .296/.320/.407, his performance has notably spiked to .362/.415/.447 over the past month. While not known for power hitting or drawing many walks, Rosario excels in driving runs and maintaining a solid on-base presence.

Defensively, the 28-year-old provides valuable versatility, albeit without standout prowess in any single position. He has effectively filled roles at second base, third base, shortstop, and right field this season, and has previous experience in other outfield spots. His infield capabilities, in particular, align well with the Giants’ pressing needs, especially given the struggles of Brett Wisely and Nick Ahmed, neither of whom have delivered consistently. Though Thairo Estrada’s eventual return from injury is anticipated, Rosario’s bat offers a more reliable offensive contribution compared to Ahmed or Estrada. Wisely has shown promise since his recall but may not provide the stability the Giants seek for a postseason push.

Rosario signed a one-year contract with the Rays as a “prove it” opportunity during the offseason, and a trade would mark his fourth team in just two seasons. San Francisco’s requirements mesh closely with Rosario’s skill set, making a potential acquisition mutually beneficial.
