Key UNC Basketball Target Sets Decision Timeline
The UNC basketball staff is just days away from welcoming talented guard Derek Dixon for an official visit in Chapel Hill.
After a weekend trip to Vanderbilt, the four-star guard from Gonzaga College High School (D.C.), who is a top prospect for UNC in the 2025 class, told ZAGSBLOG that he intends to make his recruitment decision by the end of September. Although the 6-foot-3, 190-pound senior hasn’t set a date yet, he has one in mind.
“I was thinking about September 27,” Dixon said.
In addition to his recent visit to Vanderbilt, Dixon has also taken official visits to Pitt and Virginia during his junior year. He will visit Chapel Hill for an official tour with Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels starting this Friday, and he plans to finish his visits the following weekend with a trip to Arizona.
Dixon has risen 18 spots in the rankings since January and is currently ranked No. 58 overall in the 247Sports 2025 Composite. Since late July, he has narrowed his options down to six finalists: UNC, Vanderbilt, Arizona, Pitt, Syracuse, and Virginia.
So far, the UNC basketball coaches have not secured a commitment for the 2025 class. Derek Dixon could potentially be their first newcomer in a few weeks, having received an offer from Hubert Davis in May.
