Highly Conflicting As Contract Decision With Top-Star Looms, Juiced The Total To a Peak Of $6.5 Million

As the 2024-25 season approaches, the Boston Bruins have decided to establish a full-time starting goalie instead of using a shared rotation. They’ve chosen 25-year-old Jeremy Swayman to take the lead in net.

After three seasons sharing goaltending duties with Linus Ullmark, Swayman is set to take charge for one of the NHL’s top teams. However, he still needs a new contract before officially stepping into the role.

Swayman is among several restricted free agents yet to sign for the upcoming season, but there seems to be no tension between him and the Bruins—the paperwork just needs to be completed.

Once he signs, Swayman could become one of the NHL’s highest-paid goalies. NHL analyst Stu Grimson commented on the potential salary, suggesting, “If it doesn’t start with a six, it’s high fives. I’d say around six, give or take.” Grimson estimated a maximum of $ 6.5 million, which would place Swayman as the sixth-highest-paid goalie based on cap hit. Even in the “high fives,” he would still land in the top 10.

The Bruins currently have the cap space to finalize this deal, with over $ 8.6 million available and just one roster spot left. This means they can secure Swayman and be fully prepared for the season.

Although Swayman had the option to file for arbitration, he opted not to after expressing that he wanted to avoid that process again. He remains patiently waiting for an offer from the Bruins.

For Bruins fans, there’s no cause for concern regarding Swayman’s situation. He is expected to re-sign with Boston and emerge as one of the league’s top starting goalies.

In his 132 career games, Swayman boasts a record of 79-33-15, with a .919 save percentage and a 2.34 goals against average.
