WICHITA, Kan. — On Friday, Wichita State baseball and head coach Brian Green announced the promotion of Anthony Claggett to the position of assistant head coach. Claggett will maintain his role as the pitching coach for the team. In his inaugural season in this role, Claggett played a pivotal part in leading the Shockers to a 32-29 overall record. Under his guidance, the Wichita State pitching staff achieved a 5.07 earned run average (ERA), which ranked second among teams in the American Athletic Conference.
Claggett faced the challenge of working with a pitching roster that included only four returning pitchers and a total of just 71.1 innings pitched from the previous year. Despite this limited experience, Claggett and the Shockers excelled, finishing among the top three in the AAC for hits surrendered per nine innings, with an average of 8.73. This success highlights Claggett’s effective coaching strategies and ability to develop talent within the program.
