“Huge boost” As Minnesota Football Lands a Commitment From Oklahoma Transfer RB With Electrifying Resume

Minnesota Football lands a commitment from Oklahoma running back transfer Marcus Major following an official visit

Everyone involved with college football anticipated that the 2023 transfer portal would be chaotic upon opening, and it has indeed lived up to that expectation and more, with over 2,000 division one football players already participating. Despite this frenzy, PJ Fleck and the Minnesota Gopher Football team managed to secure a commitment from Marcus Major, a former four-star graduate transfer running back from Oklahoma.

Major, once a highly-rated prospect in the 2019 class, saw his career affected by injury. Over his five seasons at Oklahoma, he appeared in 35 games and made five starts in the backfield for the Sooners, with four starts and seven appearances occurring during the most recent season. Throughout his career, he accumulated 194 carries for 833 yards and eight touchdowns, finishing the 2023 season with 78 carries, 308 rushing yards, and a single rushing touchdown.

Major shared his reasons for wanting to transfer for his final season of eligibility in a social media post, expressing gratitude to God for the opportunity to play football and thanking the coaching staff and his teammates at the University of Oklahoma for their support and unforgettable experiences. After prayer and discussions with his family, he made the decision to enter the transfer portal for the 2024 season.

Major will be utilizing an additional year of eligibility granted due to COVID, giving him one year to play at Minnesota. Major, who is 6 feet tall and weighs 220 pounds, will join the team. With Bryce Williams and Sean Tyler graduating, as well as Zach Evans (North Texas) and Marquese Williams (Akron) entering the transfer portal,

Minnesota needs to find replacements for four scholarship tailbacks from last season. This leaves Darius Taylor and Jordan Nubin as the only returning players in that position group. Therefore, alongside Ohio transfer Sieh Bangura, true freshman Jaydon Wright, and Ohifame Ijeboi, Major brings valuable experience to the team’s running back roster for the 2024 season.
