MIKE TOMLIN SIGNS 3-YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION WITH PITTSBURGH STEELERS

‘I am appreciative for this contract extension and thankful for Art Rooney II for his support during my first 17 years in Pittsburgh.’

In the previous season, Mike Tomlin, the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, achieved his seventeenth consecutive year without a losing season since the beginning of his coaching journey. This streak is set to continue as the team recently granted him a three-year contract extension.

The NFL franchise revealed that Tomlin will remain at the helm until at least the conclusion of the 2027 season, allowing him to further extend his remarkable track record of success.

“I am grateful for this extension and deeply thankful to Art Rooney II for his unwavering support throughout my initial 17-year tenure in Pittsburgh,” stated Tomlin in a written communication. “Our ongoing focus remains on returning to our rightful place—consistently thriving in the playoffs with the ultimate aim of clinching the franchise’s seventh Lombardi Trophy. I am thrilled to kick off the 2024 season and deliver a memorable year for our loyal fans.”

Tomlin holds the distinction of being the NFL’s lengthiest-serving head coach.

Heading into his 18th season, the Steelers coach has never encountered a losing season. As of December 2023, he made history by becoming the sole head coach to embark on a coaching career with 17 or more consecutive non-losing seasons. While achieving this milestone first, he is two seasons shy of matching the 19 non-losing seasons record held by former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick. Matching this record, then following it up with two more seasons at .500 or higher, would further parallel the tenure of Tom Landry (Dallas Cowboys), who amassed 21 seasons.

During his tenure as head coach of the Steelers, Tomlin has steered the team to seven AFC North championships, secured 11 playoff appearances, and participated in two Super Bowls (XLIII and XLV). The team emerged victorious in Super Bowl XLIII, defeating the Arizona Cardinals with a score of 27-23. Tomlin boasts a regular season record of 173-100-2 (.633).
