Just over a month ago, Mike Locksley and his Maryland team secured a commitment from one of the top quarterbacks in the 2025 recruiting cycle. On Saturday, they added a four-star interior offensive lineman to help protect him in the future. Jaylen Gilchrist from Salem High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia, became the 21st member of Maryland’s recruiting class. He is now the highest-rated recruit in the Maryland class and the fourth offensive lineman to commit to the Terps.
According to 247Sports, Gilchrist is rated as a four-star interior offensive lineman, ranked as the third-best in his position and the third-best recruit from Virginia. He is also listed as the 91st overall recruit for 2025. He chose Maryland over SEC schools like South Carolina and Georgia.

Four-Star Lineman Jaylen Gilchrist Commits to Maryland
Gilchrist is a two-way player for Salem, playing both right tackle and nose tackle. Standing over six-foot-four and weighing 296 pounds, he’s a formidable presence as a rising senior in high school.
Although he missed part of his junior year due to a broken collarbone, he showcased impressive skills during his sophomore season. According to 247Sports, while Gilchrist could excel as either a tackle or guard, his potential is significantly greater at the interior positions. He possesses long arms and excellent leverage, along with strong, heavy hands that allow him to dominate in the run game. On tape, he appears to be a standout player, often overpowering opponents.
Gilchrist demonstrates good control of his size, and when his footwork and hand placement are in sync, he is nearly impossible to get around. He is an impressive athlete for his stature, capable of reaching the second level and neutralizing more agile linebackers.
