Huge Insights As Arizona State calls out Desmond Howard after Kansas State upset, many are likely biting their tongues

The Arizona State social media team had some fun after the big win.

As the 2024 college football season approached, the Arizona State football team was projected to finish last according to the Big 12 preseason media poll, receiving all 16 votes for that position. However, following their surprising victory over Kansas State, many—including former Heisman winner Desmond Howard—are likely reconsidering that prediction.

During ESPN’s College GameDay, Desmond Howard voiced his opinion that it was a mistake for the panel to choose between Arizona State and Kansas State, noting that neither team has much of a national following. In response, the Arizona State football team took to social media to let Howard know they were paying attention to his pregame comments.

Heading into the week, many viewed Arizona State as a team that had benefitted from some luck, questioning whether their 7-2 record truly reflected their talent. However, before facing Kansas State, head coach Kenny Dillingham emphasized to his team that their record was earned, not just a product of chance.

On Saturday night, the Sun Devils demonstrated their capability to compete for the Big 12 championship with strong performances from quarterback Sam Leavitt and wide receiver Jordyn Tyson.

Arizona State has two games left in the regular season—against BYU and at Arizona—as they pursue the Big 12 title after being written off by many before the season began.

Following their upset win over the Wildcats, social media reactions were entertaining, particularly with the Arizona State football team expressing appreciation for Pat McAfee, the only panelist to predict a Sun Devils victory over Kansas State.

If Arizona State secures victories in their final two games of the season, it’s certain that social media will explode with reactions. Considering how many people wrote off this team before the season began, many media members would likely reverse their preseason opinions.

After notching their third consecutive win, Arizona State is becoming a team to watch for the College Football Playoff.

Although there are still several regular-season games remaining, the way this team has come together under coach Dillingham shows that they are far from out of the running for a championship.
