During Saturday’s match against Utah State, Temple University kicker Maddux Trujillo set a new record for the longest field goal at Lincoln Financial Field, surpassing the previous record held by Philadelphia Eagles kicker Jake Elliott. Trujillo successfully kicked a 64-yard field goal, breaking Elliott’s record of 61 yards.

It was the longest kick ever at Lincoln Financial Field for both college football and NFL games. Additionally, it marked the longest field goal in top-level college football since 2008, when UTEP’s Jose Martinez also achieved a 64-yard kick. Prior to this, Temple’s record was 56 yards, set by Doug Bitterlich in 1975 at Akron.
Temple University secured the victory, aided by Trujillo’s kick, as Evan Simon connected with Dante Wright on a 91-yard touchdown pass with four minutes remaining in the third quarter, giving Temple the lead for good and helping them defeat Utah State 45-29. This touchdown gave Temple (1-3) a 24-21 advantage and sparked a three-touchdown fourth quarter for the Owls.
Simon connected with Daniel Evert for a 16-yard touchdown with 11:57 left in the game. He followed that up with a two-yard pass to Peter Clarke with 6:02 remaining, and then capped it off by running one yard for the final touchdown with 3:22 left on the clock.
He finished the game with 271 passing yards, five touchdowns, and added 49 rushing yards on 11 carries, including the touchdown. For the Aggies (1-3), Spencer Petras threw for 293 yards and a touchdown.
Utah State took an early lead in the second quarter when Herschel Turner scored from four yards out, making it 7-0. Three minutes later, Petras threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Jalen Royals, extending their lead to two scores.
Temple responded with a 32-yard touchdown pass from Simon to Antonio Jones with 7:50 remaining in the first half. Just before halftime, Simon connected with Antwain Littleton for a 17-yard touchdown to tie the game. However, less than a minute later, Utah State regained the lead when Rahsul Faison rushed for a 20-yard touchdown.
Temple narrowed the gap to 21-17 when Trujillo kicked a 64-yard field goal as time expired in the first half.
On Monday, Assistant Athletic Director Rich Burg announced that Trujillo was named American Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, while quarterback Evan Simon made it onto the AAC Weekly Honor Roll for Week 4. Trujillo set an American Athletic Conference record with his 64-yard field goal, which ties for the eighth-longest in NCAA history and is the longest made kick since 2009, according to Burg. Simon, who filled in for the injured Forrest Brock, made his second consecutive start and accumulated six total touchdowns—five through the air and one on the ground—helping lead Temple to their first win of the season.
