The top in-state talent is joining Auburn’s 2025 class.

Winter is on the way, Eric Winters to be specific.

Hailing from Enterprise (Alabama), the highly rated safety who was initially scouted as a linebacker in the 2025 recruiting class received numerous offers but has ultimately decided to commit to Auburn. Standing at No. 53 overall, No. 5 in the safety position, and No. 5 in Alabama, based on 247Sports rankings, Winters represents a significant addition to Auburn’s recruiting class.

Initially, Auburn’s linebackers coach Josh Aldridge and head coach Hugh Freeze targeted Winters as a top prospect for 2025. However, the responsibility of recruiting Winters shifted to Charles Kelly, who played a pivotal role in persuading Winters to join as a hybrid safety within D.J. Durkin’s defensive setup.

“Feeling like a part of the family,” Winters previously stated regarding Auburn. “Interacting with Coach Kelly, who has coached individuals similar to me and has guided players like me to the professional league.

It’s truly a blessing to have someone who understands how to utilize my skills. Coach Durkin has mentored players like Jabrill Peppers, who exhibit incredible versatility and are deployed in various roles.”

Georgia and Miami emerged as the final contenders for Winters, with both schools making substantial efforts to sway him towards their programs. Georgia gained momentum during the spring and summer, as did Miami, intensifying the competition with Auburn.

In the end, Auburn successfully secured Winters as a recruit, solidifying their position as a top choice for him. Winters expressed, “The people within the program are what drew me in. Auburn boasts great individuals throughout, creating a positive environment. The coaches have shown strong interest in me, and they are exceptional individuals.”

As the active summer of official visits and camps gradually concludes, Winters wraps up a fruitful month by committing to the Tigers, bringing Auburn’s total commitments to 15. His pledge elevates Auburn from the 8th spot to the 6th position in the 247Sports team recruiting rankings, placing them third in the SEC, trailing behind Alabama and Georgia.
