To keep up with the realignment frenzy and prevent a potential revolt from Florida State and Clemson, the ACC has added three new schools, including two from the western part of the country and another from Dallas. This move expands the conference’s influence well beyond the Atlantic coast, which is reflected in its name.

Big Ten

Big 12

In 2023, the Big 12 conference consisted of Baylor, BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas, Texas Tech, UCF, and West Virginia.

By 2024, the Big 12 had undergone significant changes, with Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, BYU, Cincinnati, Colorado, Houston, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech, UCF, Utah, and West Virginia becoming its member teams.

Following the departure of Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC, the Big 12, in a bid to maintain its competitiveness, made strategic moves by adding four former Pac-12 schools, bringing the total number of teams in the conference to 16.

Pac-12

In 2023, the Conference of Champions included Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, Colorado, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Utah, Washington, and Washington State as its member teams.

By 2024, the Conference of Champions had dwindled to just two schools, namely Oregon State and Washington State, after the Big Ten, Big 12, and ACC took away several of its members. Instead, Oregon State and Washington State will have schedules that involve playing seven and eight games against opponents from the Mountain West conference, respectively.

SEC

In 2023, the conference comprised of Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Miss. State, Missouri, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Vanderbilt.

By 2024, the conference had expanded to include Oklahoma and Texas, two powerhouse programs in college football, joining the original 14 teams to create a 16-team roster. This move is considered one of the most significant in college football’s recent expansion efforts.

AAC

In 2023, the teams included Charlotte, East Carolina, FAU, Memphis, Navy, North Texas, Rice, SMU, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa, UAB, USF, and UTSA.

In 2024, the teams featured Army, Charlotte, East Carolina, FAU, Memphis, Navy, North Texas, Rice, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa, UAB, USF, and UTSA.

Conference USA

In 2023, the teams comprised FIU, Jacksonville State, Liberty, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, New Mexico State, Sam Houston, UTEP, and Western Kentucky.

In 2024, the teams included FIU, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Liberty, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, New Mexico State, Sam Houston, UTEP, and Western Kentucky.
