Kansas State men’s basketball coach Jerome Tang has signed a new contract that runs through the 2030-31 season. The deal is structured to ensure Tang’s success and stability at the university, while also protecting the university’s interests if Tang were to leave early.

The contract includes a significant increase in Tang’s annual base salary, which will rise from $3 million to $4.1 million over the course of the agreement. Additionally, Tang will receive bonuses for team performance, with the potential for the contract to be worth up to $28 million if all bonuses are met.

The contract also includes a retention bonus of $200,000 each season Tang remains as coach, paid on May 31 every year. However, if Tang leaves for another coaching position before the contract is finished, he will owe K-State Athletics a significant amount of money, decreasing by $1 million each subsequent season.On the other hand, if K-State decides to part ways with Tang, he would receive a substantial payout.

For example, if he were fired during the 2025-26 season, K-State Athletics would owe him $18,675,000.Tang has been successful in his two seasons at Kansas State, leading the team to the Elite Eight in his first season and a winning record in his second.
