Syracuse lands transfer DB Calvin Fowler as walk-on

Calvin Fowler, a transfer defensive back from Duquesne, has announced on social media early Thursday that he will join Syracuse as a preferred walk-on. Having spent the previous two seasons at Duquesne and making a single appearance during that time frame, Fowler brings three years of eligibility to Syracuse.

Originally hailing from Willingboro, New Jersey, the 6-2, 180-pound athlete was part of Duquesne’s 2022 recruiting class. His high school journey led him from St. Joseph Prep in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Marjory Stoneman Douglas in Florida, where he capped off his high school career.

Noteworthy achievements include being a member of the state championship team at St. Joseph in 2020 and earning recognition as a Broward County All-Star in 2021.

Under the leadership of new head coach Fran Brown, Syracuse football has been actively bolstering its roster through the transfer portal. Joining the likes of Fowler are talented additions such as running back Will Nixon, quarterback/athlete Michael Johnson Jr., defensive back Marcus Washington, offensive lineman Savion Washington, cornerback Clarence Lewis, offensive lineman Codie Hornsby, defensive back Duce Chestnut, defensive lineman Dion ‘Tank’ Wilson, offensive lineman Da’Metrius Weatherspoon, offensive lineman Joshua Miller, wide receiver Zeed Haynes, defensive back Devin Grant, linebacker James Heard, defensive lineman Isaiah Hastings, defensive lineman Fadil Diggs, wide receiver Jackson Meeks, and quarterback Kyle McCord, hailing from various collegiate programs across the nation.

Syracuse football kicks off its season at the JMA Wireless Dome on August 31st against Ohio from the MAC conference. The game is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. Eastern time.
