Former Florida State football standout quarterback and Heisman Trophy recipient Chris Weinke played a pivotal role in guiding the Seminoles to their inaugural wire-to-wire season in 1999. Additionally, he led the team to its second National Title in program history. Weinke’s passes resulted in touchdowns for FSU icons like Peter Warrick, Anquan Boldin, Ron Dugans, and Snoop Minnis. His impressive performance yielded 3,103 yards and 25 touchdowns as the Seminoles secured a national title during his junior year by defeating Virginia Tech.

In 2000, after winning the Heisman, he was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the fourth round of the 2001 NFL Draft. Following his tenure with the Panthers and the 49ers in the NFL, Weinke transitioned into coaching, ultimately joining the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets after an extensive coaching career with stints at St. Louis/LA Rams, Alabama, and Tennessee.

According to Chad Bishop of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the former FSU star has signed a contract extension that ensures his presence in Atlanta, GA for the foreseeable future, accompanied by a significant increase in his salary.

“Weinke, entering his third season with the Yellow Jackets, is now contracted through Jan. 31, 2026. His original contract, effective from Jan. 1, 2023, was set to expire on Jan. 31, 2025,” the report stated. “Weinke’s base salary received a raise from $600,000to$700,000. Starting from Feb. 1, 2026, his annual salary will further increase to $750,000.”

Weinke’s coaching expertise includes mentoring talents such as Nick Foles, Case Keenum, Jared Goff, Jalen Hurts, and Tua Tagovailoa as they progressed in their careers. Presently, he guides Georgia Tech’s standout quarterback, Haynes King, holding the titles of Assistant Head Coach, Quarterbacks Coach, and Co-Offensive Coordinator.

The 2024 season kicks off with FSU facing Georgia Tech in Week ‘0’ on August 24 in Dublin, Ireland. Weinke will be on the opposing sideline when the game commences.
