Ever since joining the NBA in 2018, Sexton has demonstrated his scoring prowess by averaging over 20 points per game in two consecutive seasons. Should he be available, Zach Buckley from Bleacher Report has put forward a proposed trade between the Heat and the Utah Jazz, where the Heat would receive Sexton.

Jazz acquire: Duncan Robinson, the 15th overall pick, and a second-round pick from the Lakers in 2026. Buckley outlined why the Heat would find Sexton’s scoring skills attractive.

“Sexton’s ability to score could make a significant impact in South Beach, where the Heat could benefit from increased perimeter shooting and aggressive play. His consistently energetic style would easily align with the team’s culture, and he could provide a scoring boost to the second unit that was diminished when Tyler Herro moved into the starting lineup.”

Coming off a productive season with the Jazz, the former 8th overall pick averaged 18.7 points per game with a shooting percentage of 48.7 from the field and 39.4% from the three-point line. Acquiring him would pair him with other high-scoring guards like Herro and Terry Rozier in their backcourt.

Additionally, he is entering the third year of a four-year, $71 million contract. Sexton’s reasonably priced contract could also enhance his appeal to the Heat.

There’s ‘Belief’ Collin Sexton Could Be Available: Report

The possibility of trading for Sexton arises from reports suggesting that he could be made available during the offseason. According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, there is speculation from rival executives that guards Collin Sexton and Jordan Clarkson might be put on the trade market.

If Sexton does become available, the Heat have the means to acquire him. They would need to consider whether it’s worthwhile to trade off-ball sharpshooter Robinson for Sexton, who excels as an on-ball shot creator. While Rozier possesses similar attributes to Sexton, obtaining efficient scoring on an affordable contract is a rare opportunity.

It’s worth noting that Sexton has yet to play for a playoff team, but this situation may not entirely be attributed to him. Miami acquiring him could potentially alter his fortunes in this regard.

With the possibility of Sexton becoming available, The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor highlighted why he views him as a “hidden gem.”

“He embodies all the qualities of a player capable of contributing to a team that competes on the grandest stages,” O’Connor wrote. “Sexton is an explosive player who excels at driving towards the basket. When not executing crafty layups or floaters, he’s a willing playmaker. Furthermore, he’s a skilled shooter, boasting a 44.7 percent success rate in catch-and-shoot 3s and a 32.6 percent conversion rate in dribble-jumper 3s during his time with Utah. As a dynamic defender at just 25 years old, he appears poised to bolster a competitive team at both ends of the court.”

The Heat could potentially be that competitive team, contingent on developments involving Jimmy Butler during this offseason.
