Just in: Nebraska trending with 4-star DL Heavy “WEIGHT 235”
Nebraska welcomed a large contingent of official recruiting visitors, numbering close to 20 individuals, to Lincoln over the recent weekend. Among this group were several highly coveted prospects, with one of the top priorities for the Huskers being Malcolm Simpson, a four-star defensive lineman from Galveston (Texas) Hitchcock.
Having received an offer from Nebraska just the previous month, Simpson wasted no time in arranging his official visit to the campus.
Reflecting on the recruitment process, Simpson shared, “Coach Knighton from Nebraska personally visited my school, we had a conversation, and he extended the offer to me in person.” He expressed his surprise and gratitude at the unique gesture, highlighting that such personalized attention from a Nebraska coach was a first for him and something he deeply appreciated.
Making his way to the university campus on Friday, Simpson engaged in various activities and interactions during his stay, emerging from the visit on Sunday with a positive outlook regarding his relationship with the Huskers. It appears that the connection between Simpson and the Nebraska program is on an upward trajectory, indicating potential mutual interest and a promising recruitment journey ahead.
On Saturday night, Bryan Munson, a recruiting insider at HuskerOnline.com, entered a prediction in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM), forecasting that Nebraska would secure Simpson’s commitment. This prediction positions Nebraska as the clear front-runner at present, given that Simpson has no other official visits lined up. Other potential contenders vying for his commitment include Texas Tech, Kansas, USC, and Baylor.
Huskers’ history, tradition stand out to Simpson
In a brief period, the Huskers and Knighton have made significant progress with him.
Simpson remarked, “From what I understand about Nebraska, they were once superior to Alabama and Georgia. They were essentially a blend of Alabama and Georgia. I’ve heard of their outstanding defensive lineman, Princewill Umanmielen, who achieved freshman All-American status.”
Knighton also noted similarities between himself and Simpson. Simpson revealed that Nebraska envisions him as a versatile player who will play in various positions within their defense.
“He views me as a player with significant potential,” Simpson stated. “They envision me being versatile on the field. He mentioned that I reminded him of himself during his college days. They prefer me to play in positions like four, five, seven, and along the line. I will need to become comfortable with playing various roles at the next level. I have no other option.”
Simpson, standing at 6 feet 3 inches and weighing 255 pounds, is ranked as the No. 293 prospect in the 2025 class according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a composite ranking that combines data from the four major recruiting media outlets. He is positioned as the 23rd best defensive lineman in the nation and the 44th best recruit in Texas.
