Senators sign defenceman Matthew Andonovski to a three-year, entry-level contract

The Ottawa Senators’ president of hockey operations and general manager, Steve Staios, made an announcement today regarding the signing of defenseman Matthew Andonovski to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Andonovski, who is 19 years old, has played for the Kitchener Rangers in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) for the past three seasons. In the 2023-24 season, he achieved career highs in goals (seven), assists (25), and points (32), while also leading OHL players with a remarkable plus-58 plus/minus rating over 65 regular-season games.

Additionally, he topped the Rangers’ roster and ranked fourth among OHL skaters with 124 penalty minutes. According to Staios, “Matthew has shown significant progress since being drafted last summer. He is a physically imposing defenseman who excels in his defensive play.

One of his greatest assets is his determination and competitiveness. We have eagerly anticipated observing his performance during this week’s development camp.”Andonovski, a native of Markham, Ontario, has played his entire major junior career with the Kitchener Rangers, accumulating 52 points (seven goals, 45 assists), and 240 penalty minutes across 175 games. The Senators selected him in the fifth round of the 2023 draft, with the 140th overall pick in Nashville.
