BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — First-year Southern University football head coach Terrence Graves and offensive coordinator Mark Frederick share a long history. Their connection began in the early 2000s when Frederick played under Graves, who served as co-defensive coordinator.
Years later, Frederick joined Graves on the Southern sidelines as a running backs and special teams coach. After several career moves, they have reunited at Southern to lead the Jags program.
“I wouldn’t have made the move if it weren’t for him. That shows the strength of our relationship; it’s more like a father-son bond than just coach and player,” Frederick shared with Geaux Nation about his connection with Graves.
Graves recognizes a younger version of himself in Frederick.
“Players start to feel like your sons, and seeing him develop and succeed in this field brings me so much joy. It really reflects a lot of my own journey—young, energetic, and passionate,” Graves remarked.
