Local 2026 WR Hamisi Juma ‘could call ASU his future home’

Hamisi Juma, hailing from Tanzania, developed a deep affection for soccer, inspired by his father’s involvement in the sport. At the age of 7, his family relocated to the United States in pursuit of a brighter future. This decision set off a series of consequential events. In eighth grade, his introduction to American football marked the beginning of a transformative journey filled with new and impactful opportunities

“One of my friends got me into football,” Juma remarked. “At our middle school, there was a flag football team, so I joined in and showcased my skills. I was known for my speed.”

Juma participated in tackle football in the 13U division for a year prior to his freshman year at Chandler High School. Following a year at Chandler, Juma switched to Tolleson High School for his sophomore season, where his remarkable abilities caught the attention of Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham. Juma, standing at 6 feet 4 inches, weighing 195 pounds, is a highly regarded recruit for the class of 2026.

Dillingham extended a scholarship offer to Juma during ASU’s 7-on-7 competition in June 2023.

“Meeting coach Dillingham for the first time was fantastic,” Juma expressed.

Juma, currently ranked the 13th best prospect in Arizona and the 96th wide receiver in his class, mentioned that his height caught Dillingham’s attention.

“His comments about what he appreciated in me drive me to keep pushing forward because more colleges will pursue me if I continue to elevate my game,” Juma remarked.

In the early stages of his recruitment, Juma has garnered interest from numerous colleges, reportedly receiving offers from Arizona, Colorado State, Louisville, NAU, and UNLV.

Despite not having met the Sun Devils’ new wide receivers coach, Hines Ward, Juma expressed his excitement about the interactions he has had during his visits to ASU.

“The conversations I’ve had with the coaches and players make it seem like a place I could envision as my future home,” Juma stated. “I appreciate the coaching staff for their consistent engagement with me before offering me. They have shown me the same level of support they would give to a five-star defensive back who just committed. They are impartial and provide opportunities.”

After participating in only five games at Tolleson last season, Juma recently made the decision to transfer back to Chandler High School. However, he may have to sit out his entire junior season if his appeal is not approved by the Arizona Interscholastic Association.

However, Juma is deeply fascinated by the idea of becoming a local hero, particularly because N’Keal Harry, the previous wide receiver from Chandler High School to attend ASU, was drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft.

“My parents would be very supportive of that,” Juma noted. “I have a lot of love for my mom, and she loves me. So, becoming the hometown hero would hold great significance due to the challenges I’ve faced and the efforts my parents have made to get me to this point.”
